Hi there!

Richard here.  Just a quick note to say that I will be previewing a new Edinburgh attraction in June!

It’s called The Walter Scott Seance, and will take place at the historic and gorgeous Signet Library in the heart of Old Town.

For each performance a small number of guests will be invited to The Signet Library and shown to a secret chamber that’s rarely open to the public.  This intimate book-lined room contains a number of Sir Walter Scott’s personal possessions and other historically significant items, and is said to be haunted.

During the show you will discover the life of Scott, and his fascination with the strange and uncanny. And then, as the chamber darkens, we invite the spirit of Scott to join us.  But fear not, this is a fun-filled show of magic and mystery. A unique, exclusive and immersive experience.

Performances last 50 minutes and are strictly limited to just 30 seats. Tickets will be just £10 (preview price).

Preview performances will be on 4th & 18th June at 1.30pm & 3pm.

Tickets will go on sale at exactly 7pm on Thursday 18th May on this site.

Night School and Experimental

August 12, 2014 by

PhrenologyHeadHi there. Richard here.

A huge thank you to everyone who has come to see And The Goat Remained A Goat. Lovely to see so many members.

Just a quick reminder that I have two other fringe events on in the coming week.

– On Thursday I am delving deep into the mysteries of sleep and dreaming in a one-off Night School talk at the Assembly Rooms (tickets here).

– And then on Sunday I start a short run of Experimental: The show that plays with your mind.  This is an unusual show because there is no performer.  Instead, you are taken through a series of psychological experiments that will make you laugh, gasp and scream (albeit not in that order).  There’s a brief video about the show below.

Hope that you can make it.  If you do come along, do say hello.

Fringe time!

July 31, 2014 by

Richard here.  A big thank you to everyone who came along to our last few events.  As you may have noticed, it is Fringe time again and so I thought I would highlight a few shows that you might enjoy.

First, I am performing ‘And the goat remained a goat‘, with musicians The Creative Martyrs (‘darker than the inside of a bowler hat’) at 5pm in the Voodoo Rooms.  Based on the real-life adventures of 1930s psychic investigator Harry Price, there will be prestidigitation, creepy music, rare film footage, and paranormal happenings. Here is a photo of the show from our Secret Society preview…

Second, psychologist pal Rob McIntosh is presenting ‘Bizarre Bodies‘, a fun talk on the how your brain represents your body: how you know what size and shape you are, and where you are in the world. There will be bodily illusions and other corporeal phenomena. It is not aimed at children, but curious kids of 10 and up should get something from it. Anatomy Lecture Theatre, 2-3 pm, 7th & 8th August.

Finally, two Secret Society supporters are presenting their shows.  Fab comedy magician Pete Firman is here with Trickster, and gentleman juggler Mat Ricardo will be performing Showman.  Do try and catch them, they are great.

We have lots more Secret Society events planned for 2014, so look forward to seeing you soon.

Two new shows – Tickets on sale now!

July 11, 2014 by

PhrenologyOn the 15th July Richard will be presenting previews of EXPERIMENTAL. This is a show like no other, because it doesn’t have a performer! Instead, you’re taken through a series of psychological experiments designed to make you laugh, gasp and scream.  Come along and be the first to experience this new form of immersive show.  The show will run for about 45 mins, and there will be a chance to chat with Richard about it afterwards.  These performances will be filmed.

There will be 2 performances at 7.00 and 8.30.

On 16th July, Pete will be presenting THINKING OUTSIDE THE BRAIN. This is also a show like no other, but it DOES  have a performer! That’s not the original bit. The original bit is that you actually get to think outside your brain. If you feel trapped  inside your head, if you’d like to get out of your head, you can!  Discover how to think outside the brain, and re-define the way you think. The show will run for about 55 mins. There will be 2 performances at 7.00 and 8.30.

Both shows will take place at a secret location in the centre of Edinburgh, and we will email you details of the venue after you have booked a ticket.

Because we love you so much, and as a way of thanking everyone for being so supportive over the past few years, we are not going to charge for these events.  Instead, we will charge £5 and a ticket and when you arrive you will get your £5 back.
